FILM DIRECTION COURSE

At FACE Academy, Film Direction course is built as a collaborative, hands-on process rooted in real filmmaking practice. Students are trained to take a story from script to screen while working closely with cinematography, production, and post-production students, understanding how each department contributes to the director’s vision.

Along with direction, they are also introduced to the fundamentals of scriptwriting, cinematography, and editing, giving them a well-rounded understanding of how films are structured and executed. The program focuses on essential responsibilities like script breakdown, scene design, working with actors, shot planning, and leading a crew on set.

With access to a working studio environment, students are regularly exposed to live shoots and real production setups, allowing them to observe and participate in the filmmaking process in real time. By the end of the course, they develop the confidence to handle a set and direct their own film on a professional studio setup from start to finish

COURSE STRUCTURE

3 Months Module (Weekend)

Designed as a 3-month module, the Film Direction program takes students through the core aspects of directing-from developing a script and designing scenes to working with actors and executing a film on set. The curriculum also introduces students to the complete filmmaking process, including pre-production, production, and post

Practice & Assignment (Weekdays)

Apart from the weekend sessions, students are given regular assignments and practical exercises to work on during the week. They are encouraged to come in, use the studio space, and apply what they’ve learned, allowing them to practice consistently and gain hands-on experience.

Masterclass

A one-day masterclass is conducted using high-end cinema cameras like Sony Venice or RED, where film direction students lead the shoot under faculty guidance, while cinematography and filmmaking students handle the technical aspects-creating a real, collaborative on-set experience.

+15 Days Portfolio Making

Film direction students are encouraged to collaborate closely with students from other departments, understanding how each role contributes to the filmmaking process. As part of their final project, they get the opportunity to direct their own film, working with a team just like on a real set. For this, they are given exclusive access to 14+ pre-built sets, allowing them to plan, shoot, and execute their film in a professional studio environment.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN FILM DIRECTION?

WHY LEARN FILM DIRECTION AT FACE?

Collaborative Learning Across Departments

Students work closely with scriptwriting, cinematography, and editing teams throughout the process. From developing the story with writers to planning visuals with cinematographers and understanding the final edit, they experience how each department shapes a film. This builds strong communication, clarity of vision, and a real understanding of how a director leads a collaborative set.

Structured Film Direction Syllabus

The syllabus is carefully structured to reflect real filmmaking workflows and how directors work on professional sets, covering script breakdown, visual storytelling, shot planning, working with actors, and on-set execution in a clear, progressive format, supported by hands-on exercises, assignments, and studio-based practice that give students real insight into how decisions are made during actual productions.

Learning Inside a Working Film Studio

Students train in an active studio where live shoots happen regularly, giving them direct behind-the-scenes exposure to real filmmaking. They observe ongoing productions, understand how different departments work together on set, and experience how decisions are made in real time. This continuous on-set involvement helps them connect classroom learning with actual production workflows.

Industry Exposure & Networking

Film direction students interact with technicians, crew members, and production teams during live shoots and studio-based projects. This regular exposure helps them build meaningful industry connections and develop relationships within the filmmaking community.
